City.People.Light – A Platform bringing Urban Lighting Initiatives Together
City.People.Light: Initiative Promoting Light Application in Urban Environments
The City.People.Light program is an open platform that enables lighting professionals around the globe to research and promote the role of lighting in urban environments and help to raise global awareness about the importance of light in the public realm.
Light Function in Urban Environments
It all started over 20 years ago (1996) as a research project aimed at exploring the potential to use light in urban environments. At that time, the findings of research were already inspiring many lighting professionals to develop exciting new illumination concepts. And since then, these concepts have been transforming the way our cities are designed and illuminated.
Enhance Lives through Light in Urban Environments
Today, the aim of the program is to continue engaging with people fom the lighting profession from all around the world, supporting creative projects and exploring the relationships between the elements ‘city’, ‘people’ and ‘light’. Annually, there is a contest organized aiming to reward lighting projects that best demonstrate how to ‘re-humanize’ urban environments through light.
City.People.Light Award 2016
As part of the City.People.Light platform, Philips Lighting and LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International) established the City.People.Light award in 2003. Since then the goal has been to reward urban lighting projects that best demonstrate how to ‘re-humanize’ urban environments through light, boost city livability and explore ways to maximize sustainability.
This year’s entries are now open and projects can be submitted till August 12th, 2016.
