The entry period for the 2017 darc awards / architectural – the world’s only peer-to-peer international architectural lighting design awards – is almost at an end. All project entries have been received but there is still time to get your product information in front of the international lighting design community. As part of entering the darc awards / architectural, your entry will be displayed on www.darcawards.com/architectural and your company qualifies to be part of the darc directory, a comprehensive online lighting design resource that can be used by designers and clients alike for inspiration.

Every independent architectural lighting designer and light artist is eligible to vote online for their favourite lighting schemes and products.

Product entry deadline is 12am (UK time) July 11th, voting starts on July 12th.

Darc Awards Vote for The Winners!

With the entries shortlisted by a panel of recognized international lighting designers, it’s now over to the crowd! The darc awards 2016 is a unique concept utilising mondo*arc and darc magazine’s reputation as being the most widely read and respected lighting design publications in the world. With a database of over 1,400 international lighting design practices and,a unique opportunity was created to get every practice involved in the darc awards vote process.

Low and High Budget Designs in Various Categories

Darc Award organizers have formalised a list of categories that is a reality check. Each category (Structures – Places – Spaces and Art) is split into a Low and High budget plan (£30,000+ spent on luminaires) so that the smaller projects can compete on a level playing field in every category rather than enter the dreaded ‘Special Project’ category.

The entry is opened up so that anyone can enter (lighting designer, lighting architect, interior designer or lighting manufacturer). Once the shortlist has been chosen by an international jury of independent architectural lighting designers, each of the 1,400+ lighting design practices and their designers will be invited to vote on their favourite projects via our specially developed darc awards website. One designer, one vote, making this the only truly peer-to-peer lighting design awards in the world.

Lighting Inspiration for Designers and Clients

There are also three architectural lighting product categories (interior / exterior / technology) that will follow the same philosophy resulting in a comprehensive online database. The products will also be voted on by the lighting design community so the winners will be a true reflection of what the lighting designer likes.

Award Categories: Interior – Exterior and Technology

The awards are split into five categories. Project categories each have Low and High budgets. The product (Kit) category is split into Interior, Exterior and Technology products. There will be a special ‘darc award’ during the awards ceremony for the project that gained the most votes.

darc night will take place at MC Motors, an Aladdins Cave of props and surprising spaces, in Dalston, London on September 15th, 2015. It will be an atmospheric party in a unique venue in London. Imagine light art, street food, lighting installations… this breaks all the awards rules and will be unlike any other awards ceremony to date.

International Lighting Design Survey 2016

The International Lighting Design Survey 2016 – featuring 1,400 lighting design practices and 4,500 lighting suppliers – is the definitive listing of lighting designers, distributors and manufacturers worldwide. The survey is conducted by Mondo*Arc on an annual basis.

The ILDS is the ultimate annual worldwide directory for the architectural lighting design industry featuring a comprehensive  listing of independent lighting designers, OEM lighting manufacturers and distributors around the globe.

Lighting Design & Engineering Practices

Now in its seventh year, the survey has expanded again from the previous sample to a questionnaire being sent to every lighting design practice (or lighting design division within an engineering firm) in the world.

May Design Series – The Lighting Sector

The Lighting sector of May Design Series, curated by mondo*arc and darc, will be a mixture of architectural, decorative and contract lighting. By putting together a range of lighting highlights to appeal to designers, architects and retailers, inspiration is guaranteed!

Of the 10,000+ visitors last year, over 2,000 were interior designers, 1,800 were retailers, 560 were architects and 300 were lighting designers. Without  no Light + Building and Euroshop in 2015, 15,000 visitors are expected to the show.

Mini-Conference: Designers With Light Forum

Central to the Lighting sector will be the Designers With Light Forum, a mini-conference for Lighting Designers, Architects, Interior Designers, Clients and Manufacturers. Last year’s Forum attracted over 300 delegates who came to see speakers from Speirs + Major, Foster + Partners, Mecanoo, Buro Happold, Arup, Argent, ChapmanBDSP and Billings Jackson among others.

The May Design Series 2015 show will run in London ExCeL for the first time in its history.
