Organized by the Designers Lighting Forum of New York, LEDucation is the ultimate marketplace for solid-state lighting innovations, giving industry professionals a chance to experience new technologies as well as continue their education through a wide range of accredited seminars. LEDucation is a non-profit event, and its proceeds help stimulate future LED advancements by supporting a variety of grants, scholarships and lighting programs.

World experts gather at 2019 Design + Lighting Congress

All the details are ready for the first Design + Lighting 2019 Congress that will be held on July 25 and 26 at La Huaca Theater in ATLAPA Convention Center.

2019 Design + Lighting Congress

The program begins on the 25th with the Presentation Project of Lighting of Panama Viejo that will be in charge of the Patronato Panamá Viejo and Signify. Later there will be a technical talk by the lighting designer Jorge Gaitan, called Architectural Lighting Facades.

Another highlight will be the panel of experts and the theme The keys to the success of the transformation of public lighting to LED in the Republic of Panama.

Renowned Lighting Designer Talks

On the 26th the program restarts with the participation of the renowned lighting designer Francisco Palacios, who will be in charge of the exhibition Building Dreams. There will be an important space for success cases in the lighting program for retail stores, where the theme of the Lighting of Shopping Centers will be developed.

The highlight of the two days will be the Panel of Designers – Perspectives, Observations and Visions of Illumination from the point of view of the Lighting Designer, where there will be several international specialists.

Moving on to its 8th year, the Middle East Lighting Design Summit 2019 will dive into concepts of lighting design and highlight the developments in this industry, with particular reference to the Middle East region.

Over 350 delegates consisting of senior lighting designers, sustainability experts, urban planners and architects will come together to learn, network and discuss with international and regional experts on the various trends, opportunities and challenges in implementing innovative lighting design techniques.

WOMEN IN LIGHTING is an inspirational digital platform that profiles women working in the field of lighting design. It aims to promote their passion and achievements, narrate their career path and goals, celebrate their work and therefore help elevate their profile in the lighting community.

The Lighting Design Profession vs. Women in Lighting

There is a need to increase the profile of successful women working in lighting to help encourage, support and inspire the next generation. There is no doubt that women currently have a lower professional profile despite making up approximately 50% of the lighting design profession.

The project is supported by individual female lighting designers in 50+ different countries. Those ambassadors are a point of contact in each location for anyone seeking to find out more about the project. The project also includes those working in related lighting fields such as education, journalism and manufacturing.

This is completely in line with one of the outcomes we want to achieve with this project. As well as creating an inspiring digital platform for women working in lighting, we also want to create a better balance in the industry. If there are approximately 50% women working in lighting, we want to see this recognised in all conferences, juries, panels and committees everywhere.

The platform is not about gender inequality but about inclusivity and how this is beneficial to the lighting profession as a whole.

Light Space Design Summit 2019: Fostering the Convergence of Light, Space and Design

Lighting Trends – Themes and Challenges

Other speakers will tap into the trends, themes and associated challenges currently permeating the design industry, from smart technology to sustainable, ‘green’ lighting.

The award-winning lighting design consultancy Electrolight, who designed the new lighting on Melbourne’s now-iconic Sound Tube has put forward its director Donn Salisbury to present. Donn will provide a reality check on the balance that can be difficult to strike between creativity and sustainability when seeking to design and light energy-efficient spaces.

DJCoalition Director David Skelley, Martin Klaasen of Klaasen Lighting Design and BVN Principal Ninotschka Titchkosky are just three other names rounding out the summit’s distinguished and knowledge-packed speaker list.

Rapid Light Talks

The LSD Summit will blur the line between attendee and keynote presenter, enabling delegates to play the role of speaker as part of its Rapid Light Talks segment. The fast-paced presentation format will allow 30 delegates to step forward for 1 minute to share their latest work, design philosophies, or ideas with the aid of 3 slides. Rapid Light Talks will allow attendees to raise their profiles among industry peers, while simultaneously uncovering surprising talents and insights.

Now in its Eighth Year: International Lighting Design Survey 2018

The International Lighting Design Survey 2018 (ILDS 2018) brought to you by arc should already be very familiar to most of you, but if there are still some of you who are unaware of the concept, introductions are perhaps in order. Put simply, the ILDS is the annual snapshot of the lighting design industry, a list of independent lighting design practices (as well as lighting design divisions of engineering consultancies), major architectural lighting manufacturers and their global distributors.

ILDS 2018: Local Listings – A Global Guide

Grouped into five global regions (Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia) and sorted by country, these listings provide a valuable reference tool for those working with – and within – the architectural lighting industry. As last year, no dedicated decorative lighting companies are included in the ILDS (unless they also supply architectural lighting) as these are now included in their own directory, 3d, published by our sister publication, darc.

New in ILDS: Certified Lighting Designer Status

The actual issue of the ILDS features 5,000 lighting suppliers and almost 1,600 lighting design practices (up by almost 100 from last year) with over 700 of those featuring at least one IALD member. A new feature that was added this year is the CLD icon for lighting designers who have gained Certified Lighting Designer status. So far, 39 lighting designers have achieved the certification. In addition, over 100 lighting design practices are promoting themselves in this issue with Enhanced Entries, as well as over 200 suppliers. InterLumi Panama 2017 has been closed in a great Success

InterLumi Panama 2017, which was held from 29 June to 1 July 2017 at ATLAPA Convention Center, attracted 151 exhibiting brands from 21 countries and 2,172 high quality visitors from 28 countries/regions in the global range.

InterLumi 2017 Match-Making Program

Acting as the new shining point of InterLumi Panama 2017, the Match-Making program was launched on the first two days of the show. Preselected purchasers in groups from Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela joined the program with the purpose of implementing new projects and finding potential partners. Over 100 sessions of face-to-face meetings were scheduled and both exhibitors and buyers from the lighting industry gave their positive reviews.

Concurrent Events: Efficient Lighting Forum

The second edition of Efficient Lighting Forum – Central America, which has become the well-received concurrent event of InterLumi Panama, presented a stronger lineup this year. 11 experts from Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Spain discussed 4 topics in vogue.
