Light School 2020: Bringing Surfaces to Life – The Importance between Light and Surface

A highlight of Light School 2020 was the Light Talks theatre. Co-located with the highly respected Surface Design Show in London’s iconic Business Design Centre, Light School sets out to educate architects and designers in the importance of the relationship between light and surface by bringing together leading manufacturers and suppliers with architects and designers looking to specify their products.

Light Talks Theatre: Light and Materials Connection

Designed to emphasize the essential link between light and materials, the brand new Light Talks Theatre featured a range of surface materials creatively lit to accentuate and play with their intrinsic essence.

”Playing with light, reflectance and colour and incorporating the calming elements of biophilic design we have created an immersive, reflective space to contemplate and enjoy Light School’s lecture series.” – Rebecca Weir.

The Light Talks speaker program is curated by the Institution of Lighting Professionals. The program by ILP is made up of panel sessions, presentations and masterclasses.

Light School 2020 Master Classes

Light Talks by Light School hosted a full program of presentations during the 2½ -days of the Surface Design Show. These will include two masterclass sessions bringing together panels of lighting designers with architects, interior designers and OEM lighting manufacturers to discuss the intrinsic link between lighting and surface materials.

Today, London is the world’s capital for lighting design specification, home to some 101 lighting design practices (out of a total of 209 in the UK). Responsible for specifying for projects not only in the UK, but around the globe, UK practices secure on average almost 12 projects each abroad.

The next Light School will run alongside the next Surface Design Show, which is scheduled for February 9-11, 2021.
