Recognition of the Lighting Design Profession

“TO: THE ASSOCIATIONS WHOSE AIM IT IS TO GAIN RECOGNITION FOR THE ROLE OF LIGHTING DESIGNERS”

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). This International Year is the initiative of a large consortium of scientific bodies together with UNESCO, and will bring together many different stakeholders.

Proclaiming Recognition of the Lighting Design Profession

A Lighting Designer is passionate about light and lighting, he shares creativity, technological research, knowledge of art and architecture, the continuing education and the dissemination of the culture of light. Today, Lighting Designers are not identified, protected, listened to, or enhanced. They do have no representation in politics or trade unions. Now many of them are in a tight spot to continue or defend their activities.

IYL2015: International Year of Light

Lighting Designers now demand recognition of the strategic value of their profession especially in the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). We ask to meet as soon as possible with the Steering Committee of the IYL 2015 to propose an institutional face, a united front, so that the Lighting Designer will have a Year of Light too. They need the commitment of our professional associations to identify initiatives to support them, and the commitment of professionals to increase participation and contribute to the event.

Let’s #LightUp2015 International Year of Light!

We encourage you to sign the petition, it only takes a minute, but your voice is important to be heard. First signatories were done by e.g. leading Italian Lighting Designers, Social Light Movement (SLM) and various editors in the field of design and smart lighting. Please join them on getting the Lighting Design Profession recognized!
